Anniek and Thomas traveled to the Achterhoek region for the wedding of their dreams.
Getting married at Ruurlo Castle
This past season I had the opportunity to capture many weddings in the beautiful region where I live. The Achterhoek is not only popular among the Achterhoekers themselves, but also more and more people from, for example, the west of the country know how to find the most beautiful places in the Achterhoek to say their ‘yes’ or celebrate their love. For me, it is nice to see how people from outside also appreciate our region. As an Achterhoeker, I naturally know the most beautiful spots for a shoot and feel completely at home among the Achterhoek providers with a don’t-do-but-but-brush mentality.
One such wedding was that of Anniek and Thomas. They were married in the heart of the Achterhoek region at Ruurlo Castle; their celebration took place in the accompanying Orangery.
They are from Amsterdam and to start the day relaxed, they stayed the night before at Bospark de Bremstruik. This park is located in a beautiful wooded area on a dirt road, a wonderful place to quietly capture all the getting ready and have the first look.
Ruurlo Castle is a fairytale wedding venue that also lends itself wonderfully to a photo shoot. Century old trees, romantic bridges, a rushing fountain and lush rhododendrons in the background and a beautiful bride and groom in the foreground, just like a dream!
The attached Orangery is an atmospheric venue where Anniek and Thomas threw a vibrant party. The terrace overlooking the castle and beautiful estate was the perfect place for cake and toast. At the Oranjerie Ruurlo, the groom gets to saber the champagne himself. That is, spectacularly cutting off the top of a champagne bottle with a sword. All this, of course, under expert guidance. A very special experience that makes for exciting photos.
I capture the atmospheric evening party in all its fragrance and colors. I always try to take the bride and groom outside for a moment to take a beautiful picture at sunset. This has also become a wonderful record with Anniek and Thomas.
