City Monastery Mariënhof in Amersfoort is an atmospheric, historic wedding venue in the middle of the city. It is therefore the ideal place to say yes.
Getting married at Marienhof
Yvette and Rutger got married on a beautiful, sunny day in the heart of Amersfoort at Stadsklooster Mariënhof.
Yvette and Rutger kept a number of wedding traditions. Thus we began the sun-drenched day at the bride’s parents’ house. There Yvette had her getting ready. Both Yvette and their daughter were put in makeup and given a hair makeover. Traditionally, Yvette’s mother had the honor of helping her put on her enchanting wedding gown from Covers. The fact that both the bride and bridesmaids looked dazzling is easy to see from the reaction of the guests, what pictures!
Because I work with a second shooter, we can simultaneously capture the bride and groom while getting ready for the big day. The groom is usually accompanied and helped with things like a bow tie and cufflinks by men dear to them. Thus, Rutger was helped into his handsome suit from Oger by his best friend. Quite as tradition dictates, Rutger then came to pick up his bride at her parents’ home.
Contrary to what has been the custom for many years, the bride and groom no longer see each other for the first time at the ringing moment. There are several reasons for taking a different approach to the so-called first-look. You do this for example to give the guests the opportunity to enjoy it with you, to build up the tension a bit, but also to have the space to capture this special moment well. And it shows well in Yvette and Rutger’s stunning photos.
Of course, the bride and groom’s children were also busy from early in the morning and were happy that the first official moments were over. How wonderful it is to see that enthusiasm back.
Yvette received her wedding bouquet from her soon-to-be and a corsage provided festive decorations for the day’s guests. Yvette and Rutger had a special arm corsage for the ladies. Flowermoment provided these bridal flowers in soft pastel shades.
On the way to the wedding venue, we made a stop at the expansive Soesterduinen. What a fantastic photo location that is! The natural beauty enhances the beauty of the bride and groom. Each and every one of these photos could go right on the wall.
Then comes the moment everyone has been looking forward to: the wedding ceremony. At City Monastery Mariënhof, you can say yes both inside and outside. Of course, on a sunny day like this one was, getting married in the convent garden is perfect. Yvette was traditionally given away by her father. As a wedding photographer, I enjoy the emotions that come off every time I take photos of them. Special Civil Status Officer Lisette de Lange added a personal touch to the ceremony with her candor and attention to detail.
And then it’s time for cake and toast! Not only was it the moment for all the adults present to toast the new bride and groom, but also truly a moment of unloading for the children. Finally they get to taste that delicious cake and drink out of real champagne glasses. This produces delightful, relaxed photos. This beautiful wedding cake came from Mercuur Patisserie.
At this wedding, the atmosphere was right from the start and it continued during the evening party. And it shows!
A fun extra then is the photobooth where everyone can take their own picture, as crazy as they want and with whomever they want. Having those photos pasted into an alternative guest book is super fun, fun guaranteed!
If at all possible, I take the bride and groom outside after dark for a brief moment together and a few photos. This always produces relaxed photos in special light.
